Week 6- Development

After my tutorial on Monday morning I started to think more about contextualizing my work more and creating a consumer that would suit the type of prints I am currently designing. After compiling a list of certain things that I thought suited my consumer I started researching images of a certain type of person. When I found the right images I created a consumer profile board so anyone looking at my work can easily see the type of person I am aiming my designs at. This is my consumer profile board

This week I also created some more digital designs on Photoshop. I feel like these are more developed than the first prints that I created so I also sent them to the digital fabric printer. I had these printed on Habotai silk so that they sat nicely with my other prints. I was quite pleased with the fabric that I chose to print them on because I feel that it reflects the floaty fabric style that I was trying to portray. Here are some examples of my printed fabric samples

Week 3- PDP tutorial

Today I had my one on one PDP tutorial with my tutor Rianna. Unfortunately I had not been very well last week so I was nervous to go to my tutorial as I felt like I had not produced a high enough standard of work. Although I was unwell and disappointed I still took my work in to show her anyway and I'm really glad that I did. Rianna told me clearly what my strengths and weaknesses within my drawings were and gave me ideas of where to take my work next. After being able to see that my drawing strengths were in using ink with found objects I am going to create more drawings in this style. We also discussed looking at contextualizing my work and decided that I wanted to take my designs down a fashion route. Also in my tutorial Rianna told me to think about putting some boards together to clearly show my concept to others. Here is the concept board that I have created.

I felt like after this tutorial I had a clear direction of where I wanted to take my own work and develop it, I also felt like I had the freedom to work in my own way. I carried on developing my drawings using inks and printing with my own found objects and creating patterns. Below are some examples of my developed drawings.

Lines of Enquiry - Project Concept

For the first few weeks of unit X I feel that as a group we have been working quite successfully. Although not all of our ideas are the same we have been working well trying to come up with ways to combine our ideas together and come to a compromise. We came up with the concept for our project as ‘Spending a day at the fairground’ through this idea we were able to include everyone’s ideas. Starting the day looking at the movement of the rides and how they make you feel then as the day progressed the sideshows and darker side of the fun fair with fortunetellers and tarot readers. Finally looking at the theme park when it is closed and empty and all the rides are abandoned and the circus freaks come out. From this we started gathering our own initial research looking at our own different themes. From our initial research we started designing and developing motifs.

Here are some key images from my initial research
