Week 7- Print room

I have been in the print room this week trying out a couple of techniques on top of my digitally printed designs. I started by pigment printing using a very light blue colour over the top of pink and white fabric. I printed my motif and when the ink dried it created a very subtle see through effect on the fabric and I was really pleased with this. I also printed my motifs using black pigment ink to create bold patterns. My favourite technique I used in the print room was foiling. I have never used this method before but I thought that it may work quite well on the type of prints that I had designed. I was really pleased with the way the foils turned out. I think that it created a very subtle shine to my fabric which worked really well because I used a dark lead colour foil. I was initially worried that adding foil would make the fabric look cheap or tacky but I think as I used such a small amount it created the exact effect that I was aiming for. Here are some examples of my printed fabrics

After my tutorial this week I was glad with the response I got from my print room samples. I also realised that I needed to start visualizing my prints on garments. I started creating some boards which showed my clothes in a contextual way. I also created a garment flat board visualizing my prints on design flats. Below are some examples of my garment visualization boards.

Week 6- Development

After my tutorial on Monday morning I started to think more about contextualizing my work more and creating a consumer that would suit the type of prints I am currently designing. After compiling a list of certain things that I thought suited my consumer I started researching images of a certain type of person. When I found the right images I created a consumer profile board so anyone looking at my work can easily see the type of person I am aiming my designs at. This is my consumer profile board

This week I also created some more digital designs on Photoshop. I feel like these are more developed than the first prints that I created so I also sent them to the digital fabric printer. I had these printed on Habotai silk so that they sat nicely with my other prints. I was quite pleased with the fabric that I chose to print them on because I feel that it reflects the floaty fabric style that I was trying to portray. Week 5- Digital design ideas

After my tutorial this week I received good feedback from the initial print ideas I had created and from the colour scheme that I have developed. I decided to just carry on playing around with my digital drawings to create more refined and developed print designs. I felt that I needed some more texture in my work so I created some more hand drawn work trying to stick as closely to my colour scheme as possible. I then scanned in these drawings so I had a digital copy of them that I could use to add to the body of work I had to create more interesting digital prints. I also had some of my prints digitally printed on to Habotai silk this week so I could see how they looked on fabric. I was very please with the outcome of these and I am keen to develop some more prints using the new backgrounds that I have created so I can also print these onto fabric. Here are some examples of the backgrounds I have created.
